Louis Icart 1888-1950
Coursing II
An original etching signed by Icart. Ref # 371 Framed: 25 X 35"
First and foremost, Icart was an "artist" in every sense of the word. His
skill as an etcher was unmatched. You can observe a complex mixture of
graphic arts techniques in many of his works. His oil paintings range from
the red "maniere rouge" of the early 1920's, to the "impressionist" style.
He had a tremendous talent to convey sensuality and humor in his works,
along with a sense of motion. During his extremely productive career, he
created 100's of etchings and oil paintings. He illustrated many books and
did countless sketches, watercolors and pastel drawings. His love of life
and fascination with women dominated most of his work and the joy was
infectious. His works are still in high demand; being bought and sold
worldwide. Icart stated: "I hold that a picture should be a source of
dreams. It should give diversion and repose to the troubled, and life to the
materialistic".

Sacha Moldovan 1901-1982
Park Bench
Born in Russia but his family moved to New York in 1914. In 1915 he spent
several years studying at the National Academy of Art & Design. Afterwards
he went to Paris where he studied at the prestigious "Academy Julian". In
1922 he met Henri Matisse and began studying and working in his atelier.
Later he met and became a close friend of Chaim Soutine. Working with
Matisse and Soutine was a great inspiration for Moldovan, but he did not
copy the work of either of these great artists. Rather, Sacha adopted his
own very unique identity and powerful style. In 1927 he had his first
showing at the Salon d'Automne along with Chagall, Matisse, Vlaminck and
others. The noted art critic Andre Salmon introduces Moldovan to the Paris
art world with a one-man show at Gallery Carmine in 1929. From this time
onward, Moldovan had numerous shows in the most prestigious galleries in
Paris, New York and other major cities. The last public sale of his artwork
was in 1970 where his paintings were sold for $8,000 to $16,000. In the
early 1970's he was committed to an institution and thus ended his career.
Sacha Moldovan: the last "French Post-Impressionist" discovery!

Promenade
One of his very few large oil paintings on canvas. Most of his works were smaller oil on panel paintings. Framed size: 35 X 46"
He was born in Holland where he attended the prestigious Art Academy of Den
Haag. In the 1920's he moved to Paris to further his art studies and career.
His training had been in the style of the old masters. However, in Paris he
was influenced by the artwork of both the Impressionist and
Post-Impressionist artists. His artwork is best described at being "Dutch
Impressionist". Of most importance, his style and technique are unique and
distinctive. His two favorite places, Holland and Paris inspired the scenes
